Our Department Hosted an Insightful Seminar by Prof. Dr. Ercan E. Kuruoğlu

On Wednesday, January 22, 2025, a seminar featuring Prof. Dr. Ercan E. Kuruoğlu took place in the Electrical and Electronics Engineering Seminar Room. The event showcased two engaging presentations: an introduction to the graduate programs at Tsinghua University Shenzhen International Graduate School and a scientific discussion on deep learning with novel perspectives.

In the first part of the seminar, Prof. Kuruoğlu introduced the graduate program of Tsinghua University Shenzhen International Graduate School, Institute of Data Science and Information. He highlighted Tsinghua University’s high global rankings and the English-taught graduate education provided at the Shenzhen campus. You can visit the link to get detailed information about the graduate programs of Tsinghua University Shenzhen International Graduate School (SIGS). The second presentation, titled “Non-Gaussian Probability Laws in Deep Neural Networks,” focused on challenging the common Gaussian assumption in deep learning systems. Prof. Kuruoğlu provided theoretical and experimental evidence supporting non-Gaussian laws, particularly those with Levy-stable characteristics. The talk explored new approaches to reliability analysis, robustness, and data compression in neural networks.

Prof. Dr. Ercan E. Kuruoğlu holds M.Phil. and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Cambridge and has held numerous prestigious academic roles worldwide. He is currently a Professor at the Tsinghua-Berkeley Shenzhen Institute. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Prof. Dr. Ercan E. Kuruoğlu for his valuable contributions and look forward to hosting him again in the future.
